چکیده
The sand termite Psammotermes allocerus is widely distributed in southern Africa. To investigate the genetic diversity of this species 113 samples were collected arid regions South Africa, Namibia and Angola fairy circles also landscapes without circles. mitochondrial markers COI COII selected to perform Bayesian Inference analysis. phylogenetic tree composed eight well-supported groups within complex. In a synopsis with studied morphological features Northern Namib, Western Kalahari Basin, Nama, Southwestern Kalahari, East Gariep, Southern Tsau IIKhaeb Succulent Karoo should be considered as distinct species. name P. used for collections due their basal position phylogeny.

Termites
Termites (Isoptera) are plagued by bad press. They destroy the livelihood of tropical farmers, literally eat their way through our homes, and even threaten our cultural heritage, including assaults on the Statue of Liberty in New York, the ancient books of the Vatican, or the historical city of Isfahan in Iran. One estimate from 2005 put the annual damage at about US$ 50 billion worldwide, with...
متن کاملEstimating molecular phylogeny of some Indian termites combining partial COI sequences
To study the phylogenetic relationships of Indian termites (Insecta: Isoptera), mitochondrial DNA sequences of 334 bp of Cytochrome Oxidase subunit I gene of nine species were subjected to MEGA 5.2. Phylogenetic trees were constructed using Neighbor-Joining and Maximum Likelihood methods. The results revealed the phylogenetic status of Indian termites with other species from different geographi...
متن کاملMolecular Phylogeny of the Sand-dwelling Dinoflagellates Amphidiniopsis hirsuta and A. swedmarkii (Peridiniales, Dinophyceae)
Amphidiniopsis is one of the most specious genera of sand-dwelling dinoflagellates. However, its systematic position and the affinities to other genera remain unresolved. We obtained the first SSU rDNA sequences of two species of Amphidiniopsis, A. hirsuta and A. swedmarkii collected from the French coasts of the English Channel. In the corresponding SSU rDNA phylogeny, the sand-dwelling Amphid...
متن کاملNuclear and mtDNA-based phylogeny of southern African sand lizards, Pedioplanis (Sauria: Lacertidae).
The diversity of lacertid lizards in Africa is highest in the southern African subcontinent, where over two-thirds of the species are endemic. With eleven currently recognized species, Pedioplanis is the most diverse among the southern African genera. In this study we use 2200 nucleotide positions derived from two mitochondrial markers (ND2 and 16S rRNA) and one nuclear gene (RAG-1) to (i) asse...
